Traditional screw extractors work to remove stripped screws by grabbing the interior walls of the head. They work well as long as you have a large enough bit and the screw does not turn freely in the hole – the bit needs to friction to be able to bite into the screw to remove it.

Grabit work differently because they drill into the stem of the screw or bolt to remove it. This means that you can remove a screw even it the head is broken off.
