Last week during Amazon’s daily HBO TV deal I grabbed the Band of Brothers series on Blu-ray. Being a huge WWII nut, I had already seen the show several times but at the ridiculous price of $35 bucks it was a no brainer to buy it.

I did not have huge expectations for the Blu-ray quality since BOB was filmed nearly 10 years ago, but thankfully Hanks and Spielberg used film to capture their masterpiece so the transition to 1080p is flawless. The price is back to just over $50 but its still well worth adding to your growing Blu-ray collection.

WWII: A Filmed History

Wednesday, October 8th, 2008

I have always been fascinated with the history and stories of World War II. As a kid, some of my favorite books were true accounts of prisoner escapes from POW camps and secret special forces missions. Some of the best movies ever have based on WWII like The Bridge over the River Kwai, The Great Escape, Saving Private Ryan and my absolute favorite film Band of Brothers (which hits Blu-Ray 11/11).

Yesterday, The National Archives release the penutimate DVD collection for people like me.  WWII: A Filmed History is 24 discs – 26 hours of footage featuring everything from historical newsreel footage to documentary featurettes lensed and narrated by some of Hollywood’s greatest names.
