Dewalt Let's You Take Your Bandsaw on the Road

Thursday, January 29th, 2009

dewalt

We don’t do a lot of fabrication, but most of what do need to build is done in the field, away handy tools like our lathe and bandsaw. But relief is in sight. Surfing the intrawebs this morning I came across this beauty by Dewalt. Its a heavy duty portable bandsaw that offers 4 3/4″ cutting depth and a variable cutting speed from 80 to 200 feet per minute.

Other features include a speed control knob and an integrated hang hook that allows users to hang the saw without damaging the front handle or castings. Backed by a manufacturer’s 3-year warranty, this band saw comes with a hex wrench, a standard 1/2-x-44-7/8-inch blade, and a heavy-duty kit box.

If you have had a chance to field test this unit, let us know about it in the comments.

Turn Your Sawzall into a Miter Saw with Mighty Miter

Monday, October 6th, 2008

Not that we would ever consider our Sawzall a uni-tasker, but there are definitely some chores that are best left to other tools. Until now, one of the chores was miter cuts. The Mighty-Miter is a slick attachments that replaces the original shoe with an adjustable vise that secures the material to be cut with a quick clamping system.

You can cut just about anything from 3/16″ to 2″ wide. Vise & clamping assembly swings up towards the reciprocating blade which cuts your material perfectly square. Need to use the saw for a more “standard” job? Just pop off the Mighty-Miter and replace it with the saw’s original shoe.

Available for Milwaukee, Bosch and Dewalt saws. [via]

Hammer are for suckers. This Dewalt nailer has been part of our toolkit for a while and for good reason. Its battery operated, meaning we can take it anywhere, no air compressor needed. For us that is a must. The ability to quickly reconstruct a scene is priceless not to mention all the standard construction tasks this unit can handle. In our business time is money, and for a not a whole of lot money you can save a whole lot of time too.

Safety First: Dewalt Anti-Fog Goggles

Wednesday, July 16th, 2008

I am not sure about the rest of the world, but one of my worst fears is going blind.  So I take the “Safety First” motto very seriously.  Unfortunately, a lot of the eye protection gear is bulky, uncomfortable or both.  I have found the Dewalt safety goggles, to pretty much solve both of these problems, plus I liked having the option to use the tinted pair when working outside.  The manufacturer claim of anti-fog is pretty accurate.  I have experiences a bit of fogging from time to time, but nothing significant and at just $11.99 I’d say these goggles are worth the price.
