Shure SE530 Sound Isolating Earphones

Make no mistake, I love my Bose QC II headphones. But for everything they are, there is one thing they are not…portable. Most of the time it doesn’t matter I have plenty of luggage space, but lately I have been finding myself wishing I had a smaller pair of good headphone that I could easily keep in my pocket or bag. While price is up there, the solution may be the SE530′s by Shure. They noise isolation via the fit instead of electronics – they sit in your ear canal, acting like a plug – so there is no battery to replace and are built with dual woofers and a dedicated tweeter for rich and accurate sound reproduction despite their diminutive size. If you are looking for something a bit easier on the wallet, check out the SE420 series. You lose one of the woofers, but save about $100.

Bose Music Monitor Computer Speakers

bose

Another Christmas gift post for you today…I always chuckle when I read negative review of the Bose stereos or speakers. Price aside, I have a difficult time believing there is much to hate about any of their products that I have used. Sure there are few things that I would like to see changed like better pricing and perhaps an increased bass output but to me, those complaints are minor compared the upside of these devices.

Personally, I own the Bose® QuietComfort® 2 Acoustic Noise Cancelling® Headphones and the Bose Acoustic Wave Music System II – Graphite Gray . Both have far exceed my performance expectations.

This year the family added the Bose Wave Music System and  the Computer Music Monitors to our collection.

The Music Monitor Computer speakers were the most surprising to me. They are small but quite heavy, producing great highs and lows without the need for a subwoofer, making them perfect for travel. I have found myself using them for office presentations or watching movies in my hotel room when I don’t feel like using my headphones. At $400 I had some high expectations for these units and they exceeded them.

And while I realize these are expensive pieces, I am a firm believer in “you get what you pay for”. Bose has never disappointed me with the quality of their products or the sound they produce. No, I am not a audiophile and neither do I want to spend hours researching cheaper or better alternatives. If you are looking for a system with clean lines and clear, crisp sounds then Bose more than adequately fits the bill.

Bose Quiet Comfort 2 Headphones

Friday, October 3rd, 2008

Certainly not a new product but the QC 2 is still our favorite pair of headphones out there. Whatever the critics of Bose may say, our opinion is these phones have no peer in the price range. The noise canceling is top notch and make traveling exponentially more comfortable. We pop them on even if you aren’t listening to music to drown out the constant noise of an air plane cabin. And that is the just an ancillary benefit. The sound quality is outstanding as well and why we bought them in the first place. Both highs and lows are reproduced amazing well. The plug even works with our 2G iPhone, no adapter needed. And since we added the optional mike cord our QC2′s also double as hand-free setup. Expensive? Yes. Worth it? No doubt.
