Being a gadget freak it takes a lot to impress me these days. Of late, the digital camera segment has been doing just that. I remember paying $400 for a 5 MP point and shoot just a few years ago. Today, that same money will get you a beauty like the Nikon P90. But if you really want to treat yourself and can come up with a few more bucks, you will be hard press to find anything more impressive in its category than the just announced Canon Rebel T1i DSLR. The T1i is a mash up of two extremely popular models the 50D and 5D Mark II. The T1i has the same you get the 15.1 MP CMOS sensor as the 50D along with the 1080p recording capabilities of the Mark II (the fps rate is reduced from 30 to 20) plus a slew of other feature like an auto dust removing system, burst shooting and nine-point auto focus. If that wasn’t impressive enough the full kit price with lens is less then $900.

For the past few months, I have been looking for a new pair of sunglasses for this summer. I wanted a pair of wrap arounds that a sporty feel to them that still looked good on my big ole round melon.

As of this morning, I have found my winner with the Lacrosse glasses by Spy Optics. They have a big frame that fits my head nicely but still manages to look pretty sleek. Plus they are polarized for less than $120 bucks. Good Stuff.

iPhone App of the Week: Amazon Kindle Reader

I am not too sure what to think about the Kindle iPhone app just yet. I like idea, but at least on the surface, it seems to defeat the purpose for which the Kindle was built. The Kindle and other e-book readers work because of their use of e-paper, a display that requires no back lighting so there is no strain on the eyes. Honestly, I cannot imagine trying to read a book of any length on the iPhone’s bright, small (in comparison) display. Not only would battery life be terrible but I imagine it would be headache inducing experience in just minutes.

That being said, there are some rather nice features the app brings. Its is free, for everyone, not just current Kindle owners. You can download books directly to your iPhone (via Amazon’s site using Safari, no neat interface unfortunately) and Amazon’s Whispersync network automatically syncs your purchases if you are a Kindle owner.

I get what Amazon it trying to do but I am just don’t think it is really all that practical in application.
