iGO everywhereMAX

Friday, December 12th, 2008

I have been a fan of iGO products for a while now. For the past few years I have been using the company’s system to charge my wireless phones at home and in the car. The easy to replace tips have saved my a bunch of money since I cant seem to keep the same phone for more than a couple of months before wanting something new.

This year I am asking Santa for the iGo everywhere MAX system. It combines a home and car charger for all major laptops and has an auxiliary port so you can charge another gadget at the same time. Considering how handy it is to have two laptop chargers the everywhereMAX is a worthwhile investment for that reason alone.

RAM No Drill Laptop Vehicle Mounting System

Wednesday, December 10th, 2008

Looking to stay ultra-productive on the road? A Ram Mount could be just what you need. The No-Drill Laptop Stand System installs quickly and easily into the specified vehicles using the existing hardware of the passenger side seat rails and provides a telescoping feature that ranges from 12 to 18 inches.

Dual swing arms can articulate for 12 inches of reach for passenger and driver access to the mounted device. Patented rubber ball and socket joint provides additional adjustment as well as shock and vibration isolation. The RAM Tough Tray is spring loaded to accommodate 10 to 16 inch wide laptops (17″ screens). The tray features four adjustable retaining arms with rubber grip feature.

It might sound a bit extreme but the road warriors are probably already salivating…

LaCie 250 GB Rugged Hard Disk

Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008

A heavy travel schedule combined with extensive field work takes a hard toll on a portable hard drive. The problem is with the amount out photos we take almost always requires us to carry additional storage. The LaCie Rugged Hard Disk is the perfect solution for us. It sports 3 connectivity options: USB 2.0 and FireWire 400/800 nor does it require an external power source. But that stuff is just the gravy. The real meat of this drive is its unique, scratch-protected aluminum shell and shock-resistant rubber bumper that make it especially resistant to harsh elements. In fact, the drive is designed to withstand vertical drops of up to 35 inches while in non-operating mode.

Duracell Daylite LED Flashlight

Monday, November 17th, 2008

We are firm believers that you can never have too many flashlights on hand. Our favorites are LED based since they extend our power exponentially compared to traditional bulbs. Duracell has just launched new line named the Daylite.

Despite coming in under $25 the Daylite series retains many of the features of higher end flashlights like a aircraft aluminum housing, an easily adjustable beam and a lifetime guarantee. It even comes with batteries. About the only thing we don’t like is the styling at the end of the housing, which is only a minor aesthetic annoyance.

Powerline Powercup Inverter with USB Port

Wednesday, November 12th, 2008

With the all great  gadget available today, it can be challening to keep them all charged while on the road.  Instead of buying – if you can even find one – a vehicle charger for every device you have, why not just use an inverter?  We like this model not only because it fits neatly into a spare cup holder but it also has a USB port which is becoming more and more of a necessity these days.  The fact that it is cheaper than even one typical vehicle charger, works for us too.

Marpac SleepMate White Noise Machine

Thursday, October 23rd, 2008

One skill I have yet to master is the ability to fall asleep quickly and then stay asleep in a hotel room. As many nights a year as I call hotels home, you think I would get used to it. But from the strange bed and pillows to the nearly constant ambient noises, I rarely get comfortable enough to hit the sweet spot of REM sleep.

Noise machines have been around for sometime in various forms from those that make white noise to nature, animal or ocean “music” players. I remember trying one of the nature noise models years ago, but found it to be annoying and not at all relaxing. The purpose of a white noise machine is the actually eliminate all those odd sounds that distract or irritate us so the applications are more than just as a sleep aid.

The Marpac recommends the SleepMate in a variety of applications including of course, sleeping but also for people stuck in noisy apartments or cubicle farm hell. If you fall into one of the above categories, the SleepMate could be worth a look.

Bose Quiet Comfort 2 Headphones

Friday, October 3rd, 2008

Certainly not a new product but the QC 2 is still our favorite pair of headphones out there. Whatever the critics of Bose may say, our opinion is these phones have no peer in the price range. The noise canceling is top notch and make traveling exponentially more comfortable. We pop them on even if you aren’t listening to music to drown out the constant noise of an air plane cabin. And that is the just an ancillary benefit. The sound quality is outstanding as well and why we bought them in the first place. Both highs and lows are reproduced amazing well. The plug even works with our 2G iPhone, no adapter needed. And since we added the optional mike cord our QC2′s also double as hand-free setup. Expensive? Yes. Worth it? No doubt.

This is one of our all-time favorite containers. It collapse to next to nothing for easy storage, the hard shell adds the needed durability other containers of this style lack (plus we think it makes for easier dragging) and the large 30 gallon capacity makes this container ideal for all sorts of jobs from sorting evidence to cleaning up yard clippings.
